Intercape to add fleet

Intercape has revealed plans to add a new fleet of buses on the Malawi-South Africa route, a development that will see it increase its bus trips between the two countries.

Officials of the company said this has been perpetuated by an overwhelming increase in the number of customers travelling between Lilongwe and Blantyre in Malawi and Johannesburg in South Africa in recent months.

Recently, the company removed old busses that were operating on the route with seven new busses that are operating between the two countries.

Intercape’s Regional Manager-Malawi , Anthony Hlongo, said the company’s business has been flourishing despite stiff competition on the market.

Hlongo was speaking during a South Africa-based companies’ exhibition that took place recently in Lilongwe where South African companies were showcasing their products and services.

“The business environment is very conducive especially for us and that is why we have managed to run our business in the country for eight years now.

There is political will towards our sector and we appreciate the support we are getting from the governments of Malawi and South Africa,” Hlongo said.

He further said the company plans to expand its business in the country but could not go into detail about the plans.

“We have got big plans for Malawi but I cannot pre-empt everything here. What I can tell you for now is that, soon, we will increase the number of buses that will be operating in the cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe and Johannesburg,” Hlongo said.

Currently, two buses of the company leave Blantyre and Lilongwe for Johannesburg every day.
