International firms shun agriculture fair
Only one out of the 85 planned exhibitors who have confirmed their participation to this year’s agriculture fair is foreign, the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) has confirmed.
The fair is scheduled to take place in a week’s time and MCCCI is still optimistic to meet its targets.
Chief Operations Officer at the Chamber, Chimwemwe Luhanga, said there’s still growing interest among potential exhibitors, both from within the country and abroad to participate in the fair to be held at the Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre.
“We have capacity to host 91 exhibitors and we are optimistic to achieve that target,” Luhanga said.
Participants at the fair will include agriculture research institutions, the department of agriculture, inputs traders, seed companies, farmer organisations, buyers, and commodity exchange market operators.
This year’s Agriculture Fair will be held under the theme, Climate-smart Agriculture, key to sustainable agribusinesses.
