Malawi’s boxing pride Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba returns to the ring on May 27 with a fight against Cuban Osleys Iglesias in an IBO International Championship super middleweight contest at Hala Globus Lublin in Poland.
The South Africa-based boxer has put his retirement plans on hold and must win the contest to remain marketable on the boxing scene.
Chilemba confirmed the development through a Facebook post which read: “The belt is coming home.”
In his last eight fights, Chilemba has lost five times, winning twice and drawing once.
His last fight ended in frustration as he lost to Russian Pavel Silyagin on unanimous decision in a WBC Silver Super Middleweight contest on November 26 last year.
The loss forced him to announce his retirement from active boxing.
He later rescinded the decision following intervention from stakeholders including Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB).
Chilemba, 34, has 26 wins with eight defeats and three draws whereas 26-year-old Iglesias, a three-time Olympian, is undefeated in five bouts.
MPBCB President Lonzoe ‘Defector’ Zimba believes Chilemba can win with thorough preparations and the right approach.
