It has been a long wait but, finally, books for winners of the 2013 Peer Gynt Award are ready and will be unveiled today evening at an event dubbed ‘Evening of Malawian Literature’.
The event will take place in Lilongwe at the residence of Norway Ambassador to Malawi, Kikkan Haugen.
According to an invitation letter, the ‘Evening of Malawian Literature’ will see the unveiling of three books Azotus the Kingdom by Shadreck Chikoti, who came first, Assignment by Alick Ponje and Pilgrims Together by Jonathan Mbuna.
Three winners will read extracts from their books at the event.
The Peer Gynt Award is sponsored by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, which has been in the forefront supporting arts and culture in the country.
The Evening of Malawian Literature is being co-hosted by Malawi Writers Union (Mawu).
Mawu President Sambalikagwa Mvona hailed the Royal Norwegian Embassy for supporting the creative industry.
“In the absence of funding, the Royal Norwegian Embassy has been there for us and we are happy that finally these three books are ready. We just want to call upon people to buy the books,” Mvona said.
The books will be on sale during the event.
Chikoti said he was happy that the books are ready.
“This is exciting for the country’s writing industry. I am looking forward to the event on Thursday night,” Chikoti said.
