It’s Maff at Kwa Haraba
Kwa Haraba Arts Café and Gallery in Blantyre will this weekend host what is called Music, Arts, Fashion and Film (Maff).
The event, which runs from Friday through to Saturday, has been organised by Kwa Haraba led by Thoko Liwimbi and Manota Mphande and is aimed at giving an opportunity to the creative world to showcase their works.
Liwimbi said yesterday that this is an art fair which will bring several activities.
Mphande, who is founder and new venture manager, said they will have several stalls at the event.
Liwimbi said the theme for the event which they intend to be hosting every three months is ‘Fusing Music, Art, Fashion and Film.’
“We have, among others, Tiyamike Sewing, Body & Me and Mulanje Arts. We also have our resident artists Kenneth Namalomba and Peter Ndalama. We will have activities such as Yoga and music by Muhanya and Waliko Makhala,” Liwimbi said.
She added that the event will start with screening of some of the local movies on the first day.
“We have The Designer which is a short film, Shoe Shiner a documentary and Rapito another short film,” she explained.
The other films to be screened are Bella and The Last Fishing Boat.
She said that Maff is an opportunity for creatives in music, art, fashion and film to meet, showcase their products and discuss how they can progress and also be innovative.
Liwimbi also said there will be poetry and.
“This is the first ever event we are hosting as Kwa Haraba in conjunction with Manota Mphande.
“During the event visual artist Enelless Pemba Phiri, who is a Mandela Washington fellow, will engage artists on her experience.
Phiri said she learned a lot during her outing in the United States of America as a Mandela Washington fellow hence would want to share the experience.
Meanwhile, artists have already started preparing for the event.
