Jacaranda Cultural Centre samples ‘Needs of A Woman’
Solomonic Peacocks Saturday afternoon staged their play Needs Of A Woman at Jacaranda Cultural Centre in Blantyre.
The play attracted a sizeable audience. This was also part of a farewell show for the group’s director, McArthur Matukuta, who is leaving for Switzerland to pursue theatre studies. Matukuta, who is in need of K1.6 million, said after the show that they managed to raise K100,000.
The play saw Solomonic Peacocks using a style similar to that adopted by Theater Konstanz of Germany in their play Fear Eats the Soul recently. The group, however, still needs to polish up some scenes, which were unnecessarily long and, again, there is a need to put in sound to colour the play.
Again, in adopting the theatre in a round, the actors have to do more to keep the stage vibrant and have to be fast. The play tackles a very good topic of marriage.
