Maybe we generalise when we say never, even for a second, do overseers look at those below them with favourable eyes, except, of course, when it is in relation to themselves.
Maybe be generalise when we say, without watching over our backs, that the development has contributed to the neglect of subordinates.
Well, maybe this is the state of affairs in other sectors but not sports.
Take, for instance, football. Would a player deliver when not in good books with officials? I think not.
And, in Malawi, we have learned the hard way that a player may not even deliver when in conflict with other players.
A case in point is Jaffalie Chande, who claimed to have quit Mighty Be Forward Wanderers because fellow players shouted at him.
You see. It is easy to get rid of Chande. Just shout at him and Chande would be on his way out of the door. Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha! Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!
One can, for example, shout thus: “Kodi iwe Chande, umadzitenga ngati Diego Maradona? [Come on Chande, you are nowhere near Diego Maradona!]”. Now, if it were someone else, perhaps you would expect a slap.
With Chande, it is him who runs away! Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha! Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!
Enough of football.
Today I want to talk about one of my favourite sports, netball. Let me say that I love football, netball and cricket in equal measure. Brian Mpinda, who used to be development officer at Malawi Cricket Union in those days, taught me and others the basics of cricket and my love for the sport has not waned.
As of netball, I used to support MTL Queens and continues to support them despite their change of name. I do not know what happened but I also love Civonets. Call me a fan of two netball teams! Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha! Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!
Talking of my favourite Civonets, it was heart-warming this week to see team officials looking at the team’s captain, Jane Chimaliro, with favourable eyes. It is unlike other top officials who only look at things in a negative way. When it comes to good things in life, they only think of them [good things] in relation to themselves.
Not with Civonets officials, who spoiled Chimaliro, my Super Captain, with a cooker following her outstanding performances at the Netball World Cup which took place in Liverpool, the United Kingdom, in July 2019.
Come to think of it. It is not Civonets that trekked to Liverpool in July; it is the national netball team, the Queens.
But, still, Civonets officials saw it fit to decorate our Super Captain.
Oh, now I see. Maybe Chimaliro has been overwhelmed with the gesture.
Why do I say so? She switched off her mobile phone all week! Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha! Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!
