Japanese Deputy Ambassador visits Times Group

New Japanese Deputy Ambassador to Malawi, Hirotsugu Ikeda, has pledged his country’s continued support to Malawi in areas of development.

Ikeda spoke yesterday when he visited Times Group head office in Blantyre.

Upon arrival at Times Group, the envoy met Times Group Managing Director, Leonnard Chikadya, and his executive management team.

He then toured various sections of Times Television to appreciate broadcasting technologies at the country’s number one television station.

Ikeda said he was impressed with the love, peace and tranquility prevailing in the country which he said is not the case with many countries.

He said Malawi-Japan relations have been getting stronger by the day since 1971, adding that Japan has been helping Malawi through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (Jica) projects and promoting infrastructural development.

“Our relations have always been strong. We have been sending volunteers to Malawi since 1971 and Japan has been helping Malawi through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and also in infrastructural development,” he said.

Ikeda also hailed the media’s role is playing in enhancing development in the country.

Ikeda also commended the media, especially Times Group, for providing accurate information to the masses for their informed decision-making.

Times Group Editor-in- Chief, George Kasakula, said the visit of the high ranking diplomat is a vote of confidence in its operations, saying Times will continue serving the interest of the public.

“We are very grateful for such visits. To us, this is a vote of confidence in whatever we are doing. As Times, we will continue serving the interests of Malawians in our news and programmes,” he said.
