Jessie Kabwila in car accident


Salima North West Member of Parliament, Jessie Kabwila, Thursday escaped, with minor injuries, in a motor vehicle accident which occurred at Mphomwa Trading Centre in Kasungu.

Central Region Police Public Relations Officer, Noriette Chihana, confirmed the development, saying Kabwila’s driver, Mwiza Mhango, was trying to overtake another vehicle, as they were on their way to Mzuzu.

Chihana said upon arrival at Mphomwa Trading Centre, the driver of Kabwila’s vehicle attempted to overtaking a Mercedes Benz truck while another vehicle from the opposite direction was at a short distance.


“In order to avoid a head-on collision, the driver pulled to the nearside dirty verge and in the course of returning to the lane, he hit the right side fuel tank of the truck and veered off to the nearside road drainage. Following the impact, Jessie Kabwila escaped with cut wounds on the mouth, forehead and painful lower jaw and her driver sustained a painful right shoulder,” she said.

Kabwila’s car had its front part extensively damaged, with its front right tyre burst, rim broken, fender plucked-off, radiator and chassis damaged.

In 2015, Kabwila was also involved in a car accident which occurred near Dowa turn-off along Lilongwe-Kasungu Road
