SUYA—It is a new thing

A two-day theatre feast is awaiting theatre lovers at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre on Friday and Saturday where a play titled Jezebel will be staged.

The play was written by Thoko Masikini.

Masikini said on Monday it has been a long journey working on the production which will give people something different.

“I would want to say much now, all I want is for people to come and experience something different. Everything is different and we have had massive rehearsals,” Masikini said.

He said Jezebel tells the story of three sisters who come from a family that over the centuries has practiced and mastered the art of magic.

“As their world comes to an end, each must make a choice that ultimately brings with it deadly consequences. It is such a challenging production and I had to push the actors to do more and I am happy to work with such experienced actors,” Masikini said.

Some of the actors who are part of the cast include Flora Suya, Robert Magasa and Dipolathu Katimba.

Suya, who has starred in several plays and movies and is also a filmmaker and also scripts a television soap Spouses and Workmates which airs on Times Television, said she was excited to be back on stage after a longtime.

The last time Suya was on stage was during a play titled The Descendants.

“So far so good with rehearsals. It is a new thing, it is a stage drama but not something we are used to, it is not the drama that you normally watch,” Suya said Tuesday.
