Blantyre United attacker, Jide Mbandambanda, has been linked with a transfer to Civil Sporting Club.

Mbandambanda was, on Thursday, spotted at Civo Upper Stadium with Civil officials, raising speculation that he would join the Lilongwe side.

However, Civil General Secretary, Ronald Chiwaula, on Saturday said they never had any discussion with the player.

“It is not true that we have signed him. Yes, he was at our training base with his brother, and I guess he just came to watch training. Being football people, I saw him chat with our coaches. Of course, we need some players to replace those that we have released. Maybe, if there will be a chance, we may talk to him later,” Chiwaula said.

Civil have lost players such as Righteous Banda, who has joined Nyasa Big Bullets, and might wish to replace him with Mbandambanda.

The wild-haired Mbandambanda was Blantyre United’s top TNM Super League scorer with nine goals in the 2017 season.

Mbandambanda, who was once linked with a move to Bullets, was not available for a comment.

Blantyre United General Secretary, Anthony Kafuwa, said Mbandambanda was a free agent.

“We already issued clearances to a number of players, including Jide. We would support his move to any team because we believe in career growth of our players,” he said.

Blantyre United were relegated from the TNM Super League last season alongside Premier Bet Wizards and Chitipa United.

The future of Blantyre United is uncertain as the team’s long-time owner, Lawson Nakoma, bowed out towards the end of last season due to the harsh football climate that saw him run the team at a loss.
