JJ, Eunice still part of Mizu Band

Blantyre-based Mizu Band is still intact despite speculations from some quarters that the group had lost its vocalists JJ and Eunice Kadzuwa Mhango.

With JJ and Kadzuwa Mhango being involved in some solo shows of late at Mibawa Cafe in Blantyre, some people have come out to say the two had dumped Mizu Band.

But Mizu Band manager Emmanuel Maliro said on Monday that all was intact in the band and that JJ and Eunice have not gone anywhere.

“Mizu is intact and no member has moved out. As for JJ and Eunice they have been using their free time when they are not with Mizu to perform at Mibawa Cafe with Mkokomo Band as guest artists,” said Maliro.

JJ, who has formed a strong partnership as vocalists with Eunice, said it was not true that he had dumped Mizu Band.

“I know people have been confused with adverts which have been coming out involving my performance with Mkokomo Band. But I perform with Mkokomo Band as a guest artist. I am a member of Mizu Band and that is my family,” said the musician who starred with Mibawa Band before joining Mizu.

He said he has been performing with Mkokomo Band after he was asked by Nd’efeyo Entertainment which now manages Mibawa Cafe to be performing with their band which is still laying its foundation.

“Mkokomo Band has no vocalists so Nde’feyo Entertainment asked me to help them. So I perform with the group not as a member but a guest artist. I perform with the band on a Friday and this is just favour otherwise my hands are tied with Mizu Band,” said JJ.

He says he only performs with Mkokomo Band when he is free and that his main priority is Mizu Band.

Eunice who has also performed with Mkokomo Band at the same venue said she was invited as a guest artist and that she was still a member of Mizu Band.

“I am still a member of Mizu Band. As for my performances with Mkokomo Band, they just invited me as a guest artist to help them,” she said.

Mizu Band performs at Blue Elephant in Blantyre and has other members which include drummer Amos Mlolowa, who is also a member of Mafilika Band, keyboardist Dick Kankhunda, bass guitarist Ephraim Chambota and lead vocalist Mvahiwa Hanke.

Currently the band has no album to its credit and performs songs.
