Malawi National Netball Team Captain, Joanna Kachilika, has said the Queens must forget last year’s Fast5 Netball World Series’ third-place finish if the team is to do well at this year’s competition.
The two-day competition will run from October 28 at Hisense Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
Kachilika was part of the Queens’ squad that defied odds to finish on third position.
“Last year’s finishing line presents our starting point this year. That is now history. We need to have new ambition if we are to be successful this year,” she said.
“The coaches will certainly face selection headache. Every player wants to be in the final team. Currently, we are all fighting tooth and nail to be in the squad.”
Coach, Sam Kanyenda, said the team would play strength- testing matches against male netball teams.
“In the absence of international test matches, we have opted for male netball teams, most preferably the Akabawi. The male basketball teams’ background will help us improve on our jumping, endurance and speed,” he said.
