By Williams Gondwa:
Flames attacking midfielder, John ‘CJ’ Banda, is on the verge of joining Mozambique League champions UD Songo.
Banda has been outstanding for his Mozambican club, Ferroviaro de Nampula, helping them to finish on fourth position with 47 points on the 16-member league log table.
However, Banda’s contract with Nampula expires on November 30.
His parent club Blue Eagles Chairperson, Alexander Ngwala, confirmed the development, saying Nampula and Songo are interested in signing the former Eagles captain.
Ngwala said they are weighing offers from both clubs but the player wants to join Songo.
“I can confirm that I have offers from Nampula and Songo who have shown interest in signing CJ, but we are still discussing the matter. The season is over in Mozambique and he is with us here,” Ngwala said.
Banda’s elder brother Frank and Charles Swini play for Songo.
At Nampula, Banda plays alongside compatriot Schumacher Kuwali, having joined them in 2015.
Banda, who missed the Flames trip to Comoros Islands as he was suspended, confirmed Songo’s interest in him.
“These [Songo] are champions of Mozambique. I will wait for my bosses to inform me on what they have agreed,” he said.
