John Gift Mwakhwawa and Carol Banda are TNM E-Wimax golf champions after outsmarting over 60 golfers on Saturday at Blantyre Sports Club.
Playing with a handicap of 11, Mwakhwawa was in his own class as he scored gross of 78 and net 67 to win the championship.

Kawaza also won longest drive in ladies category while Paul Araujo won the accolade in men’s category.
Men’s championMwakhwawa also won the nearest to pin accolade.
Ladies champion, Banda said winning the tournament was not easy since it was played in a medal format.
Mwakhwawa on the other hand, said his victory started right on hole number one.
“I think it started on hole number one. The first shot honestly speaking, was heading for out of bounds, but it had a lucky bounce and ended up on the green giving me a chance to get a birdie which is a 2-club, I missed but I ended up getting a good par which is a bonus so I capitalised on that,” he said.
“Moving forward to the second hole, I properly had my birdie and that motivated me. So, I was level par up to hole number six then I begun to play a managed game making sure I hang in there.”
All the winners got Smart drive E-Wimax gadgets and a trophy.
TNM’s Head of Blantyre Region, David Nyirenda said the tournament gave the company a platform to promote the smart data product to customers.
Nyirenda said Smart E-Wimax was designed to provide high internet speeds with a download speed range of up to 5 Megabites (MB) per second for fixed residential service and up to 4 Mbps for mobile users.
The Head of Blantyre Region said TNM was proud to promote E-WIMAX on the golf platform as the sport attracts a wide base of tech-savvy and upwardly mobile data consumers.
“Technology is the key, especially in the area of data. We sponsored this tournament to bring awareness to our partners through the golf tournaments so that they should know that apart from our usual mobile services, we are also seriously in data,” Nyirenda said.
E-WIMAX is now a fully-operational TNM product following the acquisition of Burco’s ISP assets by TNM and joins the bouquet of current TNM Smart Data products.
