John-Gift Mwakhwawa, Diana Kambale conquer CDH golf


Renowned golfers, John-Gift Mwakhwawa and Diana Kambale dominated this year’s CDH Investment Bank Golf Tournament at Blantyre Sports Club on Saturday.

In the men’s category, Mwakhwawa, playing off handicap 13, scored 39 points to finish on position one. He received a trophy and K100,000 shopping voucher from Into Sports.

Tarang Makhecha, playing off handicap 10, was counted in to finish on second position with 38 points whereas Davlin Chokazinga was counted out to claim third position having also collected 38 points.


Second-placed Makhecha received a trophy and a shopping voucher worth K70,000.

Mwakhwawa said he had a strong start on the front-nine.

“This gave me the confidence that I will carry the day, and when I birdied on hole 15, I knew that I was in control,” he said.


On the other hand, Kambale, playing off handicap 26, emerged the winner after hitting 36 points.

Doreen Kabvala, playing off handicap 25, finished second with 31 points whereas Roza Mbilizi, playing off handicap 10, ended on third position with 29 points.

Kambale said she was in top form on the golf course.

“My performance was awesome. I had some fantastic shots. I was very stable with my performance,” she said.

In individuals’ category, Mbilizi won the nearest to the pin on hole 14 whereas former Blantyre Sports Club Ladies’ Golf captain, Connie Muguvu-Karuku, hit the longest drive on hole eight.

In the men’s section, Donbell Mandala won the longest drive on hole 15 whereas Chokazinga scored the nearest to-the pin on hole 12.

CDH Investment Bank Chief Business Development Officer, Benson Jambo, said they organised the tournament to interact with the golfers.
