Retired Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Technical Director John Kaputa has been selected as Technical Adviser to the Malawi National Football Team coaching panel on part-time basis.
Fam President Walter Nyamilandu confirmed this Monday when he was asked if the association would beef up the Flames’ technical panel ahead of Africa Cup of Nations finals following concerns that the present panel was not properly equipped.
“The employment contracts of the coach and his backroom staff have just been renewed for taking Malawi to Afcon [finals] as a vote of confidence for a job well done. Let us give them time to prove themselves.
“It is already a big technical panel and we have already beefed it up with the inclusion of John Kaputa as Technical Adviser of the Flames on part-time basis upon the request of the coach [Mwase]. Unfortunately, Kaputa did not accompany the team to Cosafa because he has travelled with the Olympic team to Tokyo,” he said.
However, former footballer Kuruwa ‘Khudze’ Ngwira faulted Fam for appointing Kaputa as Flames’ Technical Adviser.
“I think Kaputa has done his part. He has served in different roles both at senior and junior level. Football is now more technical and dynamic, which calls for fresh blood which is hungry for success. This is why the post would have suited someone youthful,” said the former Mighty Tigers, Silver Strikers and Nyasa Big Bullets player.
