Struggling Capital City giants Civo Service United have written Super League of Malawi (Sulom) requesting to feature prodigal son John Lanjesi in a match against Big Bullets slated for Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.

Lanjesi was on the verge of joining Mighty Wanderers after signing a pre-contract with the club but the deal did not go through after Civo refused to release him, saying he had a running contract with them.

In an interview on Wednesday, Civo general secretary, Rashid Ntelera, confirmed that the club was working to get a clearance from Sulom to feature the player this weekend.

“We have written Sulom if it would be possible to feature him this weekend but they have not responded. We are hopeful that the response would be good for us,” said Ntelera.

The flames defender started training with Civo on Tuesday in Lilongwe ahead of the game.

In a separate interview, Lanjesi also confirmed that he had started training with Lilongwe-based outfit hoping to play in the first round before joining Wanderers in the second.

“I want to play football regularly, so at the moment I will be training with Civo. I think I will join Wanderers once transfer window opens,” said Lanjesi.

Sulom treasurer, Tiya Somba-Banda, was yet to respond to a questionnaire by press time on Wednesday.

However, recently, Sulom advised Lanjesi and Civo to settle the issue jointly.

Sulom also advised the player and the club to decide the transfer fee to allow the player to join Wanderers.
