John Maduka’s Bloemfontein Celtic missed a chance to cement their place in the top eight after they were held to a goalless draw by Golden Arrows on Wednesday evening.
Maduka welcomed back Lantshene Phalane from suspension while he recalled Menzi Masuku and Neo Maema.
Meanwhile, Abafana Bes’thende made wholesale changes, with Nduduzo Sibiya, Lindokuhle Mtshali, Sphamandla Sabelo and Siboniso Conco returning alongside a rare start for Romario Dlamini.
Abafana Bes’thende started getting openings in the latter stages of the first stanza but they were not clinical in front of goals and first stanza ended without goals as a result.
Celtic had a chance to break the deadlock ten minutes from the break from a curling free-kick by Ndumiso Mabena but goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana made a great save.
Maduka was looking to put Arrows under pressure in the last 22 minutes with a double change as he brought on striker Sera Motebang in place of winger Masuku and another forward Victor Letsoalo replaced Maema for fresh legs.
Siwelele were the most threatening side in the closing stages but they could not bury their chances as the encounter ended goalless.
As a result, Celtic dropped out of the top eight thanks to Highlands Park’s win over Cape Town City and dropped to ninth while Arrows remain in 11th place. —KickOff
