Flames legend John Maduka can now breathe a sigh of relief after his side Royal AM thrashed Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 in DStv Premiership on Saturday.
This was Maduka’s second consecutive win in the PSL this season, after the Malawian started the season on a low after two defeats, losing 1-0 to Moroka Swallows and 2-1 to Cape Town City.
Following the two defeats in opening matches of the season, AM management gave Maduka a one-game ultimatum.
But he delivered after beating Chippa United 1-0 last week before the big win over Chiefs on Saturday.
Maduka put the icing on cake on his 50th match as a manager in South Africa.
The former Bloemfontein Celtic coach was delighted with the win but insisted his side was work in progress.
“It is a good present for me; I am so happy. Really difficult game, all the games are difficult, there is no game that is easy, we just need to go back. And we know that the more you win like this the more it gets difficult. It is not going to be an easy game, everyone expects us to win after this impressive performance but it is something that we have to work for,” he is quoted as saying on www.SoccerLaduma.co.za.
AM are now fourth on the log table with six points from four matches.
Victor Letsoalo scored twice before Sibusiso Mabiliso scored an own goal. Mfundo Thikazi hammered the last nail on Chiefs coffin whereas Sifiso Hlanti scored the consolation for Amakhosi.
Malawian sports journalist based in South Africa Benjamin Nyirenda was also impressed with Maduka.
“After two wins, things look good for him,” he said.
Elsewhere, Flames striker Gabadinho Mhango was not in Orlando Pirates squad as they claimed a 3-1 win over Chippa United on Saturday.
But Flames duo Gerald Phiri Junior and Richard Mbulu were in the starting line up in Baroka FC’s 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune on the same day.
