Flames legend John Maduka has made a sensational return to DStv Premiership side Royal AM as head coach.

The Malawian parted ways with the club at the end of last season and joined Maritzburg United.

However, things did not go well at Maritzburg as he was sacked earlier this season.

Royal AM released a statement on their official Instagram page on Thursday.

“Welcome back coach Maduka,’’ the statement reads.

Maduka has reunited with Abram Nteo, having worked together at Bloemfontein Celtic and Royal.

’’It is unclear whether Nteo will be demoted to assistant coach following Maduka’s return to the KwaZulu-Natal club. Nteo has been in charge of the team since late last year, with Khabo Zondo being appointed the club’s head of academy,’’ reported www.goal.com.

However, Maduka was not readily available for his comment yesterday.

Maduka has a daunting task to turn the fortunes at Royal AM as the club is not performing well in the current campaign. They are on position 12 with 21 points from 18 matches, just six points above the relegation zone.

His first match on his return could be against Golden Arrows on Saturday.

He moved to KwaZulu- Natal with Royal after Durban-based business person Shauwn ’MaMkhize’’ Mkhize bought the franchise and relocated Celtic to the coastal city at the start of the 2021-22 season.

While in charge of Royal, the Malawian helped the club to a third-place finish in their maiden season in the DStv Premiership as they qualified for Caf Confederations Cup.
