Malawi national netball team player, Joyce Mvula, has been named Manchester Thunder’s Players’ Player of the Year and Most Improved Player.
The club held its awards dinner on Saturday to recognise outstanding players during the just-ended season in which Thunder finished third behind champions Wasps Netball and Loughborough Lightning.
Mvula said she was excited with her achievement after completing her second season at the club.
“It was a tough season and the goal was to lift the championship but we missed it narrowly. Winning two awards is a reflection of how the team and my fellow players value my contribution. I have been inspired to work harder to do better for my team in future tournaments,” she said.
Mvula dedicated the award to her family members and Queens teammates.
Netball Association of Malawi General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said Mvula’s performance at Thunder is great news for Malawi.
“Winning two awards at a foreign club is not easy. We expect her achievement to add value to the Queens. We need players that are doing well to compete with the best teams in the world,” Bapu said.
Mvula moved to Manchester Thunder from Blue Eagles Sisters last year.
