Manchester Thunder shooter, Joyce Mvula, is doubtful for Saturday’s match against Team Northumbria in Newcastle, England, after she sustained an eye injury in her team’s 56-62 loss to Loughborough Lightning on Monday.
According to Thunder’s website, Mvula’s involvement in the Vitality Netball Superleague game ended when she took a hit to her eye as her relations with Jamaican defender, Shamera Sterling, got tasty.
Sterling kept frustrating the Malawian shooter and it started to show in her play.
Matters reached a boiling point in the second-half when Mvula was hit on the eye and could not continue playing.
She was replaced by an effective Amy Clinton as Thunder probed for the turnovers they needed but Lightning stood firm to prove the late surge too little, too late.
Thunder Coach, Karen Greig, said team effort was not good enough and conditions were tough.
“We just did not look after the ball enough. There was opportunity to turnover ball but we beat ourselves at times today. Ultimately, Loughborough are a great team and they don’t make many mistakes and when they do, we need to make sure we capitalise on them. Not one person did an overly bad job,” Greig said.
