Joyce Mvula to join the Queens in Uganda
Manchester Thunder shooter Joyce Mvula is scheduled to join Malawi Netball Queens’ squad in Uganda on June 21.
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said they were relieved that Thunder had agreed to release the former Blue Eagles Sisters shooter for the Africa Netball Championship.
“The Malawi Queens are expected to leave the country on June 18 and she will link up with her colleagues on June 21 before the start of the championship on June 24,” she said.
Mvula’s availability will boost the Queens following the absence of Mwawi Kumwenda who plies her trade with Melbourne Vixens in Australia.
Tigresses shooter Sindie Simtowe-Msowoya has also been ruled out as she is reportedly on a maternity break.
Bapu added that Nam was worried with the fitness level of locally based players.
“This is why we called for an early camp so that we should be on the safe side. As for Joyce, she has been active and that is what we needed.
“We believe that the coaches will have a selection headache because all the players are impressive. They are fighting hard to make it into the team,” she said.
