Joyce Mvula, Towera Vinkhumbo march on

SOLDIERING ON—Mvula in action for Thunder

Malawi National Netball Team stars Joyce Mvula and Towera Vinkhumbo continue to impress in the United Kingdom’s Vitality Netball Super League statistics, where they are among the top five players in six categories.

Mvula is second in the most goals category with 504 in 16 appearances, with Ugandan Mary Cholhok on top with 629 goals from the same number of appearances.

In the shot success category, Mvula is third at 92.8 percent after converting 504 shots from 543. Team Bath Netball’s Kimberly Borger leads the category with a 93.7 percent success rate.

Vinkhumbo leads the most intercepts category with 47 but she is second in the most penalties section with 194 against leader Leah Middleton’s (Surrey Storm) 212.

The former Diamonds stalwart is also second in the most turnovers category with 74, two short of leader Layla Guscoth (Team Bath).

Vinkhumbo is missing in the most deflections category, where she has made several appearances before.

Mvula’s Manchester Thunder are third on the table with 39 points from 16 matches while Vinkhumbo’s Strathclyde Sirens lie sixth with 26 points from the same number of matches.

Thunder return to action on Saturday against Severn Stars whereas Sirens will take on Team Bath.

At the time of signing her for the 2021 season, technical director Karen Atkinson said securing Towera’s services was fantastic for the squad.

“Towera had an impressive start to the 2020 season for Stars. She is athletic and a natural ball winner,” Atkinson said.
