Joyce Mvula’s Thunder win VNL title

Malawi National Netball Team shooter Joyce Mvula produced an outstanding performance as Manchester Thunder were crowned 2022 Vitality Netball Superleague champions.
Thunder defeated Loughborough Lightning 60-53 at the Copper Box on Sunday to complete an unbeaten season.
Mvula said the team achieved a rare feat after winning all their matches in regular season and play-offs.
“It feels good to win. It was about team work,” said the former Blue Eagles Sisters players.
According to www.netballsl.com, Thunder’s attackers were ruthless and lively.
“The opening exchanges showed a sign of things to come as Thunder raced into a 6-2 lead, the attacking duo of Joyce Mvula and Eleanor Cardwell electric in their movement and pinpoint with their shooting.
“The frenetic atmosphere in the Copper Box was then dampened as Lightning goal attack went down injured, leaving the court in a wheelchair to rapturous applause from all fans,” the article reads.
The game resumed at breakneck speed as Thunder continued to add to their tally, with the trio of Mvula, Cardwell, and Nat Metcalf simply irresistible at times in attack to take the score out to 11-3.”
Skysports.com also recognised Thunder’s attacking prowess.
“In the circle, Joyce Mvula and Eleanor Cardwell rewarded almost every pass that came to them. In 60 minutes of netball, Thunder’s shooters each missed just one goal,” the article reads.
Thunder have won the VNL title four times in 2012, 2014, 2019 and this year.
