Judge George Bakuwa’s burial today
The body of the late Judge George Bakuwa will be laid to rest today at his home village, Kachule, in Traditional Authority Kachere’s area in Dedza District.
Justice Bakuwa died in Zambia while on official tour days after being sworn in as High Court Judge.
Addressing the crowd that gathered to welcome Bakuwa’s body at Chileka Airport in Blantyre, yesterday, one of the family members, Henry Matiti, described the death of Bakuwa as a loss to the family.
“It’s a very solemn moment for the family and the nation at large. Let me thank you all for your support to the family. We appreciate for standing by us in this sombre moment. Judge Bakuwa has died after a short illness and as a family, we are greatly touched. His death is a loss to the family,” Matiti said.
Notable faces that welcomed the body included the Chief
Justice Andrew Nyirenda, Blantyre Mayor Noel Chalamanda, Misheck Esau of CDH Bank and Blantyre Water Board officials including its Chief Executive Officer Henry Bakuwa who is a brother to the deceased.
From the airport, the remains were taken to College of Medicine Mortuary before proceeding to Dedza for burial.
The late Judge Bakuwa was born on January 7, 1966 and worked as a magistrate before joining the Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) as company secretary.
