UK-based comedian Daliso Chaponda, son to former Minister George Chaponda, continues to fly the country’s flag higher with the latest being his impressive performance in the Britain’s Got Talent contest.
According to a report from Huffingtonpost, Daliso became the latest Britain’s Got Talent auditionee to receive a golden buzzer, thanks to one of the judges Amanda Holden.
The report indicated that Daliso was one of the many hopefuls who did their best, impressing the panel on Saturday.
Daliso’s set is said to have impressed the panel and that it left Simon Cowell and others in stitches and that Holden reached for the buzzer.
The UK paper further reported that as Daliso made his way on to the stage, Holden commented that she would love this year’s Britain’s Got Talent winner to be a comedy star in the making.
She said that Daliso’s jokes, which included hilarious one-liners and a bit on the UK’s financial crisis, were impressive and this cemented the comedian’s place in the live semi-finals.
The report also said that after pushing the golden buzzer before the judges had even begun giving their comments, Holden rushed on stage to hug Daliso, telling him: “I’m so pleased! It was so funny, you’ve got to win. I loved it.”
And once back in her seat, Holden added: “I think you’re bloody hilarious, self-deprecating, funny, relevant.
“Laugh after laugh, it just kept on coming and I really want you to win the entire series.”
Holden also said that Daliso has a golden future.
And responding to Holden’s comment, Daliso said:
“I am shocked and delighted.”
The other comments came from Alesha Dixon and David Walliams saying: “You should be a comedy superstar.
“All the jokes were really original and you are incredibly likable, I couldn’t fault it, well done.”
“I could see you owning your own show. What you did was so funny and naughty and unique.
“This is why we make shows like this, to find people like you.”
Listening to his audition on Youtube, Daliso really impressed and left everyone in stitches. From the word go, he was not at all boring until to the end.
The 37-year-old comedian, who has had performances in the country courtesy of Qoncept Creatives, told the judges before his performance that he was from Malawi and that his name was a Malawian name.
Now living in Manchester, Daliso revealed recently that he will hold a show in the country later this year.
Daliso is the third act of the current series to receive the golden buzzer, and joins dance group Just Us and singer Sarah Ikumu.
The comedian was last year selected in the Laugh Factory’s “Funniest Person in the World” competition but he did not win.
He has starred in several comedy platforms including the Laugh Festival Africa, Nite of 1000 Laughs and Comedy Central Africa.
The comedian said last year that he had been performing for close to 11 years and that he was still making strides.
“I am still trying to push to the next level. So participating in competitions for me is an opportunity to get global recognition and this will even be better for Malawi,” he told The Daily Times.
Daliso at some point made it among the Top 10 comedians in Africa.
