Be Forward Wanderers new signing, Juma Yatina, has expressed desire to don his new team’s colours in the 2020 season.
Yatina is one of the players that Wanderers signed in the last transfer window and has reunited with Babatunde Adepoju and Vincent Nyangulu who he played with at relegated side Masters Security in the 2018 season.
The striker, who signed a two-year deal with the Nomads, is yet to make his official match debut at the Lali Lubani Road side as the new season was suspended on March 20 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Yatina said he believes that teaming up with Adepoju, Nyangulu, Francis Mkonda and Eric Atsigah at Wanderers is one of his dreams as he targets success in the new season.
“I used to enjoy playing alongside Babatunde, Vincent, Francis and Eric at Masters and I am confident that we will deliver at Wanderers. We combined well to achieve success at Masters and we can do the same at Wanderers.
“During the 2017 and 2018 seasons, we were all first team players and we delivered. We combined very well. I used to play just behind Babatunde and Nyangulu, and I miss their style
of play. I am sure that once the season starts, Wanderers will be a totally transformed team because of our skills,” Yatina said.
He expressed concern that the Covid-19 pandemic would negatively impact on his contract as it was still running despite the new season failing to kick off.
“My stay at Wanderers may end up being a short one because my contract is running right now but I have not started playing for my team. Of course I am keeping fit by training from my Mchesi home [Lilongwe] but this does not compare to playing games.
“I never imagined that after signing for Wanderers, the season would fail to kick off due to the Covid 19 pandemic. It came as a shock to me. I am now two months into my contract but without playing any official match. I hope the pandemic will end soon so that I can prove myself at Wanderers,” Yatina said.
The Malawi under-23 national football team forward was the preferred choice for the Nomads’ Bob Mpinganjira-led technical panel after impressing during the Energem International Bonanza at Kamuzu Stadium in March.
Yatina helped Masters to win the 2018 Carlsberg Cup and achieve a fourth-place finish in the TNM Super League.
Adepoju, Nyangulu, Mkonda and Atsigah were also part of the Carlsberg Cup success.
