Malawi under-20 national football team Manager, Aubrey Nankhuni, has asked Football Association of Malawi (Fam) to organise friendlies for the Junior Flames ahead of their first-round matches against Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“We need enough support from all stakeholders before we meet Angola. We need to play some strength-testing matches,” Nankhuni said.

The Junior Flames progressed to the first round on away goals’ rule despite a 1-1 draw against eSwatini, formerly Swaziland, in Lobamba on Sunday. The first– leg ended goalless.

Malawi date Angola either on May 12 or 13 at home then away two weeks later.

Malawi faced eSwatini without playing a recognised strength-testing match.

Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, said they would wait for a report from the coaching panel to see how best to support team before it faces Angola.

“It is good news for us and they need to be supported in the best way possible. This is the future of our football and we are proud of them,” he said.

The Junior Flames last qualified for the competition in 1999 when Manfred Hoener was Fam technical director with Alex Masanjala as coach.
