Junior Queens sweat for victory

Malawi Under-20 National Netball Team struggled to beat Zimbabwe 42-37 in the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games underway at Griffin Saenda Sports Complex in Lilongwe Tuesday.
It was yet another unconvincing display but the junior Queens worked tirelessly to register their second win in the competition.
The hosts were disjointed in the first two quarters but improved after half time to win and keep their dream for a gold medal alive.
Malawi Under-20 Assistant Coach Beatrice Mpinganjira said the team had improved.
“Of course, we are struggling but the girls are working hard not to disappoint the country. They worked hard for a win. The team is improving, especially in defence,” she said.
On Monday, junior Queens registered their first win after they defeated Namibia 42-39.
The hosts started the campaign badly after they lost to South Africa 55-32.
Action will continue today with the hosts, Malawi, facing Zambia while Namibia will date Zimbabwe.
In another match, Botswana will take on South Africa.
On Thursday, Malawi will face Botswana while Namibia will meet Zambia. Zimbabwe will then meet South Africa.
