The prize money for the 2016 champions of Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Beach Soccer Cup has been raised from K400, 000 to K500, 000.
For a third successive year, the finals will be played at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima on Saturday.
The finals will involve eight teams drawn from all the country’s beach soccer playing zones and leagues.
Presidential Cup regional champions and runners-up for this year will participate in the cup.
Nkopola and Mangochi Escom will represent the Southern Region League whereas Livingstonia and FC Malawi will be the Central Region’s ambassadors.
Last year’s champions, Nyerere from Chintheche playing zone, have also qualified for the finals alongside Beach Eagles.
Puma and Madala FC have also made it from Karonga.
The runners-up will receive K250, 000 whereas third and fourth-placed teams will walk away with K150, 000 and K100, 000, respectively.
The other four teams will receive K50, 000 each as a consolation. Top scorer and Player of-the Tournament will pocket K20,000 each.
Beach Soccer Association (BSA) General Secretary, Davis Sado, said preparations for the event were finalised.
“We are delighted that every year, beach soccer is showing signs of growth and there is seriousness in approach. This is evidenced by the high level of competition showcased by the teams,” Sado said.
