Apostle Enesia Chitheka Lewis, the torchbearer of a renowned gospel group, Chitheka Family, last Wednesday underwent an operation for kidney failure in South Africa.

She, however, has been instructed by the doctors that she needs to be monitored for some time according to her sister Nyaradzai, who is based in South Africa.

“She is still here but she went for operation for the kidney on Wednesday. She has been given four weeks to be in RSA for observation,” said Nyaradzai.

Last week Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) President Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango announced through a gospel forum that Chitheka Lewis, who is also Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) was in the rainbow nation for operation and that she was in need of close to K3 million to pay the bills.

Several musicians on the forum suggested that they hold a concert for the veteran gospel singer, composer, song writer and preacher.

However, her church where she ministers, Hope of Glory Church has organised a gospel concert to be held at Comesa Hall in Blantyre on June 5.

“Our apostle went to South Africa for check up, it was a normal check up but later we were told that the problem of the kidney was big and so she had to go for an operation. The operation was done and we have to pay the bills which is amounting to K10 million,” said Hope of Glory Church Media Director Sellina Muphuwa.

The church’s former administrator Lloyd Banda said as a church they managed to raise K2.5 million on their own and that they are now holding the concert to raise the balance of K7.5 million.

“We would like to call on Malawians to help us in prayers but also at the same time help us raise the K7.5 million. The gospel concert will run throughout the night until the early hours of the following day,” said Banda.

Muphuwa said the show will bring on board almost all the gospel artists who have accepted to assist.

“There are several musicians coming in to assist and they include Ethel Kamwendo Banda, Thoko Suya, Thocco Katimba and Grace Chinga among others. Well wishers have already started helping us towards the show for instance Entertainers Promotions is giving us equipment for free,” she said.

Muphuwa said they have a church account where well wishers can also make donations.

“The church’s account is MSB BT Branch 2205167572001 and our contact numbers are 0888951177 or 0888417911. We hope people will come in large numbers during the concert to help our apostle,” she said.

Apostle Chitheka came out of hibernation early this year to launch the latest album titled Yehova Nyansadabuza. This was after Chitheka Family had stayed for years without live performances.
