Nyasa Big Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa has refused to discuss issues surrounding his future at the People’s Team despite being offered a year-long contract which he is yet to sign.
“I have a running contract and I am not ready to discuss that now. We are still focusing on improving the team and also preparing for the Airtel Top 8 Cup,” Pasuwa said soon after Bullets retained the TNM Super League championship, winning it for a record 15th time.
Bullets, who defeated Karonga United 3-2 at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday, collected 62 points to finish the race ahead of second-placed Silver Strikers and third-placed Mighty Wanderers.
However, Pasuwa has given a hint to Bullets that he might extend his stay after suggesting that the People’s Team need to beef up the squad by promoting youngsters from reserve side.
“We need balance in the team. We have experienced and youthful players. We need some players from the reserve side to beef up the current squad so that we can be competitive in the league,” he said.
The Zimbabwean mentor admitted that this season was the toughest for his charges as they battled against injuries and Covid cases.
Meanwhile, his assistant Peter Mponda has echoed Pasuwa’s sentiments but felt the current squad should be maintained.
“This squad did a good job, deserves some respect but we still need depth. We need new players in the team,” he said.
However, Bullets Reserve Coach Enos Chatama said he was waiting for communication on which players have been earmarked to be promoted.
“I am aware that some of my best players will go and we will have to be ready for that,” he said.
