Kalonga, Burger win Habp golf

Maretha Burger and Willet Kalonga were in scintillating form on their way to win the Habp Lubricants Distributors golf tournament at Mulanje Sports Club on Saturday.
In men’s section, the race was tight as the top three players tied at 69 net each.
Kalonga was counted in to finish first whereas John Magombo was counted out to end on second position. Following the process Phillip Phambana was also counted out to finish on third position.
In the ladies section, Burger emerged the winner with Bose Kamphulusa finishing as a runner-up while Harriet Mariani ended third.
The ladies champion said it was a historic win.
“It was one of my best performance and my first time to win,” she said.
In Tea Estate category, Sangwani Hara was first while Bashir Sharif won the seniors category.
Rui Araujo won the longest drive in men while Mariani got it in ladies category. Retired General Clement Kafuwa won the nearest to the pin.
Habp, Chief Executive Officer, Harold Lungu, said the tournament surpassed the company’s expectations.
“We set the bar very high here and for others to match it won’t be easy. We had massive turnout as golfers from different areas took part. Our objective wasn’t about the competition only but to give them [golfers] a platform to network,” he said.
Winners walked away with fabolous prizes ranging from plasma TV screen, fridge, lawn mower, washing machine, mountain bike and gas stove.
The company also donated K500,000 worth of fuel to the club for the maintenance of the greens.
Habp and Castrol Oils Suppliers is the exclusive distributor of BP and Castrol lubricants in Malawi and it is wholly owned by local indigenous Malawians.
