Kam’mwamba knocks-out Chazama

Promising boxer Israel Kam’mwamba defended the national lightweight belt after knocking out challenger Salimu Chazama in the fifth round of the scheduled 12 rounds at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe on Sunday.
From the first round, Kam’mwamba was the dominant force in the ring unleashing a flurry of punches forcing his opponent to the corner on several occasions.
In round three, Chazama gave his boxing fans some false hopes as he unleashed good punches and left hooks that kept K a m ’ m w a m b a retreating.
But Kam’mwamba came with new ideas in round five when he knocked out Chazama.
This means Kam’mwamba has defended the belt which he won after defeating Chrispin Moliati early this year.
Kam’mwamba was delighted with the win.
“I trained hard and I got enough support from my sponsors. It is good to finish the year on a high and I hope to maintain my form,” he said.
But Chazama, who has now suffered three successive defeats, refused to speak to the media.
Ngwenyama Boxing Promotions Director, Patrick Ngwenyama, was satisfied with the huge turn-out.
“I am very excited with the response from the boxing fans and this is great motivation for us. We have organised another good fight before the end of the year. We hope the boxing fans will enjoy the fights,” he said.
The main supporting bout between Alexander Likande and Jonas Kamkwere ended in a draw whereas Felister Modesto knocked out Chimwemwe Banda. Yusuf Ali defeated Gray Chikwapulo whereas Kudakwache NKhakamila Banda knocked out Gift Phiri in round three.
