Parents of Kamuzu Academy (KA) students last Saturday flocked to the historic institution in Kasungu District to witness a Sports Day.
The annual event rewards students who have excelled in studies and sports.
Joining the parents were Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Bright Msaka, Mama Cecilia Kadzamira, Lloyd Muhara, the Chendawaka family and Senior Chief Kaomba who is Chairperson of KA’s Board of Trustees.
Speaking during the event, Msaka said KA is a great institution whose founder the late Kamuzu Banda was devoted to the development of the country’s children.
“Dr Banda intended this academy to be for the highest development of intellect, physical body and character. His vision was that graduates of this academy should stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best graduates in the world in academics, sports and character.
“I am pleased that the vision of the founding father endures to this day and, therefore, my ministry will be giving it the support it needs,” Msaka said.
The school’s headboy, Khama Maere, in his speech, encouraged fellow students to continue working hard in their pursuit of greatness.
“The most difficult roads lead to most beautiful places. Therefore, do not fear obstacles, do not worry about obstacles and do not get angry if you face obstacles because these will lead to great things,” Maere said.
During the day, the students performed different sports activities followed by a prize giving ceremony.
