Kamuzu Barracks, Big Bullets meet in tough encounter
TNM Super League champions, Kamuzu Barracks (KB), have vowed to pile more misery on struggling Nyasa Big Bullets when they face off Saturday afternoon in a first round match at Kalulu Stadium in Chikwawa District.
Straight from their 1-0 victory over their brothers-in arms, Mafco, last week, KB are in good mood and confident of collecting maximum points against Bullets, who have started the season on a low. But Bullets have also enough quality capable of beating KB.
Bullets are on position seven with 12 points from eight games whereas the soldiers are ninth with 11 points from seven games. For both sides, the match is important as they want to rise on the table after a sluggish start to the season.
Bullets interim Coach, Elia Kananji, is refusing to be under pressure ahead of the match against a side which proved a tough nut to crack last season on their way to their first ever title.
Perhaps, Kananji will be hoping for a change in fortunes in today’s fixture having gone three consecutive games without a win.
“Everything is going on well and the players are aware of the importance of the game. We have done our homework and we hope to display good football,” Kananji said.
But KB Head Coach, Billy Phambala, on Wednesday was upbeat on the chances of winning the contest against Bullets.
“The match against Bullets is always tough but the confidence is high in our camp. Our target is maximum points,” said Phambala, whose side will also meet Blantyre United tomorrow.
In today’s match, Bullets defence will have to keep a close eye on KB’s attackers, Harvey Nkacha, Kelvin Hanganda and Komani Msiska. On the other hand, KB also need to be careful with Bullets new look striking force, which includes Andy Kamlete, Chiukepo Msowoya and Nelson Kangunje.
Last season, Bullets thrashed KB 4-1 at Kamuzu Stadium in the first round before losing 1-0 to the soldiers at Civo Stadium.
KB will be without Manase Chiyesa and Ben Hojani due to injuries.
In other games today, second placed Premier Bet Wizards hope to reclaim top spot when hosting Moyale Barracks at Mulanje Park Stadium.
Probably, Wizards have found a winning formula this season after impressive displays. Wizards claimed a surprise 0-1 victory over struggling Mzuni FC in Mzuzu last Saturday.
At Civo Stadium in Lilongwe, Civil Sporting Club host rookies Chitipa United. The hosts are just a place above the drop zone with eight points from eight games whereas Chitipa are bottom with four points from eight games.
