Kamuzu Barracks can win title—coach

Kamuzu Barracks’ (KB) coach, Billy Phambala, insists that his side should be counted as serious TNM Super League title contenders after climbing up to third position following a 1-0 victory over Epac FC on Saturday at Civo Stadium.

“We have mathematical chances of winning the title, but we just need to be focused on our remaining games. The response from the players has been awesome. I believe that they are also hungry for the title,” Phambala said in a post-match interview on Saturday.

Striker Manase Chiyesa scored for KB who are often regarded as outsiders in the title race, but their recent performances have seen them collect 40 points from 22 games and are two points behind leaders, Silver Strikers. KB have never won the league title.

Former Bullets striker, Andrew Chikhosi, said the title race was still wide open with the likes of defending champions, Nyasa Big Bullets, Blue Eagles and Mafco, also capable of winning the title.

“It is not easy to predict who will win the title because all title contenders have tough matches. At this stage, we should not underrate any team,” he said.

Since 1986, Bullets have won the league a record 13 times followed by Silver and Be Forward Wanderers on eight and five titles, respectively.
