Kamuzu Barracks clinch C2K volleyball tourney
Kamuzu Barracks’ reign in the Central Region continued on Saturday when they were crowned champions of C2K volleyball pre-season tournament after beating Blue Eagles 3-1 at Lilongwe Community Centre Court.
Despite missing some key players due to work commitments, the soldiers showed determination and hunger for success.
It was not one of their best performances, but the soldiers still grabbed their second trophy of the season, just a month after winning First Merchant Bank (FMB) volleyball tournament.
In a third-place play-off, Lilongwe Spikers defeated Don Bosco 3-0 at the same venue.
For being champions, Kamuzu Barracks received K150,000, a trophy plus gold medals, whereas Eagles got K100, 000 and medals.
Third-place Spikers pocketed K50, 000 and medals.
KB Captain, Mark Mangani, admitted that they did not deserve to win the tournament.
“Eagles gave us a good game. Thank God that we are the champions again. We won just by chance as we did not play well,” Mangani said.
C2K sponsored the tournament to the tune of K600, 000. The competition offered the teams an opportunity to fine-tune before the 2016 season, which officially started on Saturday.
C2K Director, Harold Nyadani-Chaika, pledged to come back with the sponsorship next year, saying he was impressed with the organisation of the pre-season event.
