Kamuzu Barracks are hoping to exorcise the demons that have been haunting away teams in the first leg of the Airtel Top 8 Cup when they face Silver Strikers at Chitowe Stadium this afternoon.
This is the last trophy up for grabs this season. Interestingly, all the home teams triumphed in the first leg of the competition. Additionally, all the away teams failed to find the back of the net in three matches.
But this afternoon, the KB soldiers believe that they have all it takes to get a victory away from home. However, the odds are stacked against the soldiers who have failed to beat Silver in two matches this season.
Silver defeated KB 3-0 in the first round in the league match before a 2-1 win away from home in the second round.
KB Assistant Coach Blessings Kawanga said his troops will not be intimidated with history.
“A cup game is different from a league match. This is our last hope this season and we expect them to come hard on us but we will make life difficult for them,’’ Kawanga said.
For Silver, they will be hoping to continue their dominance over the soldiers this season.
The Bankers have rich history in the Airtel Top 8 Cup having won it twice in 2017 and 2019. Again, they have also appeared in all finals but one having lost last year to Nyasa Big Bullets 5-3 on post-match penalties after 1-1 in regulation time.
There is renewed hope in Silver camp and they will be hoping to finish the season on a high by winning one silverware.
Silver Coach Leo Mpulula said the players know the importance of the match.
“We know KB are a good team but we will play to win the match,” Mpulula said.
Holders Bullets are one foot in the second leg of the Airtel Top 8 after they thrashed Karonga United 7-0 at Kamuzu Stadium on Match Day One.
On Match Day Two, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers registered a 2-0 victory over Mafco at the same venue whereas Blue Eagles beat Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar 3-0 at Nankhaka Ground.
