Kamuzu Barracks eye top spot
By Mabvuto Kambuwe:
Kamuzu Barracks (KB) face unpredictable Karonga United in the only TNM Super League match lineup for today.
The two teams lock horns at Civo Stadium, with more action scheduled for Sunday and Monday.
Victory over Karonga would see KB leapfrog leaders Wanderers at the top of the table where they have 19 points from eight games.
The Lilongwe-based soldiers are two points behind the Lali Lubani Road outfit from the same number of games.
It promises to be an exciting encounter as KB, who redefined the domestic football landscape in 2016 after winning their first ever Super League title, have been enjoying a rich vein of form in recent games.
On the other hand, Karonga showed great character in the Airtel Top 8 final despite losing 1-0 to Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium last weekend.
KB Coach, Billy Phambala, said he knew that Karonga had the potential to cause an upset.
“It is a tricky match for both teams but our target is to get maximum points. We have to be very good in all departments because Karonga are also a good team,” he said.
After fulfilling today’s fixture, KB face Moyale on Monday in an all-soldiers affair.
Karonga Coach, Dan Dzinkambani, would be looking forward to bouncing back from the 1-0 Airtel Top 8 final defeat to Silver Strikers.
Dzinkambani said the loss was water under the bridge.
“Our focus is to win games in the league so that we finish on good position. The players are in good shape and are ready to give out their best,” Dzinkambani said.
Karonga will keep their faith in Mischeck Selemani and Khumbo Msowoya, who are regular scorers.
In tomorrow’s action, Nyasa Big Bullets will host Mlatho Mponela at Kamuzu Stadium whereas Silver Strikers will line up against Moyale at Silver Stadium.
Struggling Civil Sporting Club have a date with Ntopwa at Civo.
In Monday’s action, Wanderers will meet Masters Security at Kamuzu Stadium whereas second-placed TN Stars will face Blue Eagles at Kasungu Stadium.
