Kamuzu Barracks hunt for Azam Tigers

The battle for Fisd Challenge Cup glory continues this afternoon as Kamuzu Barracks (KB) hope to attack visiting Azam Tigers in a quarter-final match scheduled for Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Smarting from the 3-1 loss to fellow soldiers, Mafco, in a TNM Super League match on Monday, KB Coach, Billy Phambala, Wednesday declared total war on Tigers.

“We know [that] Tigers are a good side but we will do our best to progress to the semi-finals. This is our chance to win the cup and we will not let it go without a fight,” he said.

Tigers have been unpredictable in all competitions this season, but can cause an upset.

Technical Director, Robin Alufandika, was upbeat of reaching the semi-finals.

“It would be a difficult match but the players are mentally good. Nothing can stop us from beating them. We are prepared and confident,” Alufandika said.

Tigers are no push-overs as they boast a pool of talent.

Both teams want a consolation for the season as they are out of Super League title contention.

In the last three meetings, KB have won twice with Tigers prevailing in the other game.

Masters Security FC, who booked a semi-final slot after beating Dedza Soccer Saints 1-0 on Saturday, await the winner between KB and Tigers.

KB will certainly pin their hopes on Kelvin Hanganda, Davie Banda, Harvey Nkacha and Manase Chiyesa.

As usual, Leman Nthala will be between the sticks with Pempho Kamsichiri, Peter Mselema and Vincent Mphepo forming a water-tight defence to stop Tigers’ attackers.

The Kau-Kau have many secret weapons such as Luke Chima, Peter Kasonga, Bonda Mpinganjira and Willy Saenda.

In another quarter-final match, Moyale Barracks will face Umodzi FC at Kalulu Stadium with Nyasa Big Bullets waiting in the wings to meet the winner of this clash.

Last year, Be Forward Wanderers won the inaugural cup after beating KB 4-3 on post-match penalties at Civo Stadium. This year, Wanderers exited the cup after losing 2-0 to Moyale.
