Kamuzu Barracks plot Silver Strikers downfall

DAGGERS DRAWN—Silver and KB players in a first round battle

Kamuzu Barracks coach Charles Kamanga believes he has assembled enough weapons to beat TNM Super League leaders Silver Strikers at Civo Stadium this afternoon.

The soldiers have a score to settle against Silver after suffering a 5-1 humiliating loss in the first round.

But Kamanga said the first-round result was water under the bridge saying his troops were on a revenge mission.

“It will be a tricky match but we want to get maximum points. The players are always motivated when playing such teams,” Kamanga said.

KB dropped points following a goal-less draw against Red Lions at the same venue last Sunday.

On the part of Silver, they will be looking for the first win after dropping points in two consecutive matches against TN Stars and Red Lions.

They lost 1-0 to Stars at Kasungu Stadium two weeks ago before a controversial goal-less draw against Lions, who protested the penalty which was awarded to the Bankers.

However, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) is yet to make its determination on the matter.

Silver Assistant Coach Macdonald Mtetemera was also upbeat of returning to winning ways.

“We are very much prepared to win the match. It will be a different game but we are confident of getting a positive result,” Mtetemera said.

Ahead of today’s match, KB have a full squad and will rely on goalkeeper Lemani Nthala, Gregory Nachipo, Zinjani Yona and Sam Chibvunde whereas Silver will be without Brighton Munthali, who has travelled to Tanzania with the Flames.

But the Bankers have goalkeeper Charles Thom, leading top goal scorer Maxwell Phodo Gasten, Patrick Macheso and midfielder Blessings Tembo.

Silver lead the 16-member log table with 39 points from 18 matches, at par with second-placed Nyasa Big Bullets, who have played a game more.

With a win in today’s match, Silver will widen the gap to three points over Bullets as they are on bye alongside Mighty Wanderers.

The two clubs are on bye having contributed more than three players to the Flames ahead of tomorrow’s friendly against Tanzania.
