A bad beginning makes a good ending— perhaps this is the script TNM Super League defending champions Kamuzu Barracks (KB) are reading following their dismal campaign this season.
Starting the 2017 season in similar fashion to the last campaign, KB are hoping to pass through the same path.
But if their performance in recent games is anything to go by, the soldiers have a mammoth task to defend the title.
The soldiers have lost two of their four league games, the latest being 2-0 to Silver Strikers at Civo Stadium on Sunday.
The soldiers were given a reality check when they failed to contain Ghanaian forward Michael Tetteh, who hammered a brace.
In a post-match reaction on Sunday, KB Head Coach, Billy Phambala, refused to press the panic button.
“We missed a lot of key players due to injuries but it is still early days and we will catch up,” Phambala said.
KB have four points, eight points behind leaders Red Lions.
Silver Coach, Lovemore Fazili, said the Central Bankers were aiming for a clean sweep this season.
“I think this is our year and we are in serious business. We have a very talented squad and I hope we will cope with pressure this season,” Fazili said.
Last season, KB also lost three of their four opening games but recovered to win their first- ever league title with 61 points.
Following the soldiers’ sluggish start to the season, some quarters have likened KB to former English Premier League champions Leicester City. Last season, Leicester were in relegation fight.
