Kamuzu Barracks target double
Kamuzu Barracks (KB) Coach, Billy Phambala, has predicted that history will repeat itself when his charges face fellow soldiers, Moyale Barracks, in the Fisd Challenge Cup final at a date and venue yet to be announced.
To qualify for the final, Moyale and KB defeated Nyasa Big Bullets and Masters Security FC, respectively, 5-4 on post-match penalties in the semi-finals at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe over the weekend.
The military sides also met in the 2013 Carlsberg Cup final, with KB prevailing 1-0 at Mzuzu Stadium.
Phambala Monday said he was aiming at achieving a double over their fellow soldiers.
“I have to make sure [that] my players train hard and prepare well for the cup final. We beat them in 2013 and we will do the same this season,” said Phambala, whose team has no chance of retaining the TNM Super League championship.
In an interview after beating Bullets on Sunday, Moyale Coach, Nicholas Mhango, said the final would be like an inter-unit cup final [for the Malawi Defence Force].
“We are brothers and it will be a good cup final. I appeal to all the fans, especially soldiers, to watch the game,” he said.
KB have become the first team to reach the Fisd Cup final for two consecutive years. KB lost 4-3 on post-match penalties to Be Forward Wanderers in the final last season.
