Blantyre giants Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers will meet at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday in the semifinal of the Airtel Top 8 Cup.
However, the venue for the Capital City derby involving Civil Service United and Silver Strikers will be known later. The match will be played on December 11.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Media and Competitions Director Gomezgani Zakazaka disclosed this yesterday after the association’s competition’s committee made the decision.
“We considered a number of issues involving the availability of venues and television since the games are being beamed live on Mpira TV. After thorough negotiations, the committee settled for Kamuzu Stadium to host the Blantyre derby on Saturday. As for the match involving the Lilongwe derby, the committee will announce the venue later,” Zakazaka said.
Meanwhile, both Bullets and Wanderers have hailed Fam for opting for Kamuzu Stadium to host the derby.
Bullets Chief Administrative Officer Albert Chigoga said playing before their fans at the venue [Kamuzu Stadium] gives the team extra energy in the game.
“We welcome the venue and we thank Fam for this consideration. We are aware that we both use the venue as our home ground but it is still good news because our fans will back us,” he said.
Wanderers acting Public Affairs Manager Ernest Maganga shared the sentiments.
“We travelled to Chitowe to play Moyale Barracks and time has come to play Bullets at home again. We will have our player number 12 [fans] before us which gives us extra motivation,” he said.
Both Bullets and Wanderers have never won the Airtel Top 8 Cup.
Silver have won it twice whereas Blue Eagles won it once.
