Karonga United court Big Bullets

TNM Super League newcomers, Karonga United, are scheduled to take on Nyasa Big Bullets at Karonga Stadium in a friendly this weekend.

Karonga General Secretary, Abraham Mwakhwawa, said this was the right time to play Bullets ahead of the 2018 season.

“What we want is to mend our broken friendship with Bullets, so that when we play against them in the Super League, there should never be any disturbance,” he said.

He added that the team’s new signings are showing great character ahead of the club’s third appearance in the top-flight league.

Bullets Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Fleetwood Haiya, has since welcome Karonga’s offer for the friendly.

He said the two sides share many things in common, as four of Bullets’ players, such as Chiukepo Msowoya and Maneno Nyoni, originate from Karonga District.

“It is true that we are having a friendly match. Currently, we are working on logistics, but it will surely be played over the weekend. We will come back to confirm the exact date between either Saturday or Sunday,” Haiya said.

The two teams were at the centre of controversy when they met in Fisd Challenge Cup round of- 16 match that was played at Chilomoni Stadium on October 25 2017.

During the match, Karonga officials—including Mwakhwawa— were harassed by irate Bullets fans for suspected juju. Bullets came from 2-0 down to win the game 4-2.

Following the Chilomoni brawl, Football Association of Malawi melted out a five-year ban on 10 Bullets fans.
