Karonga United justify home friendlies
Karonga United Coach, Christopher Nyambose, has justified his team’s decision to continue playing friendlies at Karonga Stadium, saying he wants his charges to get used to the pitch.
Former Flames star, Hellings Mwakasungula, last week advised Karonga to start playing away so as to build confidence of the team’s new players.
But Nyambose, in reaction, said the players are not used to Karonga Stadium, which opened its doors late last year.
“One needs to clean his house before going out. It would be shameful to see our players failing to perform well at home because they are not familiar with their ground.
“When we are sure that we are used to the stadium, we will start playing away. Otherwise, we do not want to lose points at home when the TNM Super League season starts,” Nyambose said.
The former Mzuzu Escom coach said he was confident that they were on the right track in building the team.
Karonga Chairperson, Alufeyo Chipanga Banda, concurred with the coach, adding that they have plans to play away in Mzuzu, Dwangwa, Lilongwe and Blantyre against other Super League teams.
On Saturday, Karonga beat Mzuni FC 2-1 before defeating Tanzania’s New Fighters 3-2 on Sunday.
Two weeks ago, Karonga lost 0-1 to Nyasa Big Bullets.
