Karonga United plot Nyasa Big Bullets downfall

Struggling Karonga United believe the match against Nyasa Big Bullets this afternoon at Karonga Stadium will be the turning point for them.

Stuck in the relegation zone with just three points, Karonga are still searching for their first win of the season, having played six matches.

However, there is renewed hope in Karonga dressing room following the arrival of new coach Christopher Nyambose who has replaced Zimbabwean Lazarus Magaya.

The two teams shared fortunes in the league last season.

Karonga stunned Bullets 1-0 in the first round match. But Bullets claimed three points in the reverse fixture with a 3-2 come from behind victory at Kamuzu Stadium as they were crowned champions.

While Karonga will be hoping for first win of the season, Bullets seek to maintain their unbeaten run to pile pressure on leaders Blue Eagles.

Heading into the match, Karonga lost 1-0 to Eagles and managed a 1-1 draw against Civil Service United.

On the other hand, Bullets defeated Mafco 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium.

Probably, the match has come too early for Nyambose who has been in-charge of the team for just three days.

However, Nyambose believes the players are in high spirits ahead of the match.

“There is great feeling in camp and morale is high. We believe we will get a positive result,” Nyambose said.

Captain Eric Atsigah, Hygiene Mwandepeka and Sheriff Shamama will carry Karonga’s hopes.

Perhaps, Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa is aware of the threat of Karonga. The Zimbabwean has travelled with majority of the players including Babatunde Adepoju, Chimwemwe Idana and Hassan Kajoke.

In the last three consecutive matches, Bullets have struggled in-front of goal.

Karonga and Bullets are separated by 10 points on the log table, with the Lakeshore side on position 14 whereas the Peoples’ Team is on second position with 13 points.

But Bullets trail Eagles by three points. A win for Bullets will take them level on points with Eagles who face Silver Strikers on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Ekwendeni Hammers host Civil at Mzuzu Stadium whereas Wakawaka Tigers will be in action against Dedza Dynamos at Mpira Stadium.

Mafco, straight from their 5-1 win over TN Stars, host brothers -in-arms Moyale Barracks at Chitowe Stadium.
